January 19, 2005

ARTICLE SNIPPET - Search Engine Marketing has undoubtedly become one of the most effective forms of online marketing. We've all heard of it, some of us are more familiar with it than others.

Of all mediums, the Internet has done the most to revolutionize how we communicate with each other and locate information. According to a recent study by the Stanford Institute for the Quantitative Study of Society, the average Internet user spends just about three hours per day online. Of that time, approximately 57 percent of it is spent on communication: email, instant messaging or in chat rooms.

In 1989 there were as little as 50 people worldwide surfing the Web. In 2004, it was estimated that somewhere between 709 million and 945 million people use the Internet. This means that approximately 500 million people go online every week. Netcraft, compiles a monthly report on the total number of websites that it monitors. When they began reporting in 1995, there were 18,957 websites. By 2004 that number has climbed to 58 million, more than a 3,059 percent increase in less than 10 years.
